March 20 is International Day of Happiness. What is this day about? It’s a day to be happy and spread happiness! The International Day of Happiness (“Happiness Day”) was founded by United Nations adviser Jayme Illien on June 28, 2012, when all 193 member states of the United Nations General Assembly unanimously adopted UN resolution 66/281. The International Day of Happiness, following a multiyear campaign initiated in 2011 by the Illien Global Public Benefit Corporation. The International Day of Happiness is a way to recognize the importance of happiness in the lives of people around the world. In 2015 the UN launched 17 Sustainable Development Goals that seek to end poverty, reduce inequality, and protect our planet – three key aspects that lead to well-being and happiness.
As Pharrell once said, “Happiness is your birthright”. Happiness is free and happiness is a choice. We are all facing different obstacles and struggles in life and we all have our ways of taking it in and coping with it. But no matter with we’re facing, we all have a choice to be happy and we can choose to be happy anytime, anywhere.
Happiness can be found anywhere, you don’t have to spend a dime to be happy. Happiness can be as little as a child’s smile to as big as achieving your life long goals or completing your bucket list. Find the things that make you happy and hold on to it for as long as you can. It will take you to places you never thought you’d step foot on.
